Frequently asked questions

Acupuncture Treatment Questions

How long will a session last?
A typical session will last for around 45 minutes. The needles will normally be in for 20 to 30 minutes. For the initial consultation and treatment your session will last anything up to 90 minutes to make sure I have all the necessary information to provide the best possible treatment.

Are there any side effects?
As acupuncture involves the insertion of needles there will sometimes be a small bruise where the needle was inserted. Occasionally, people can feel dizzy or tired after a treatment, but this passes quickly. To help ensure that there are no unwanted side effects, please let them me know of any medications that you are taking, such as anti-coagulants. Also let me know if you feel hot or the room is stuffy, or you are hungry/thirsty.

Where are the acupuncture points?
Most acupuncture points are located at places along interconnected pathways, meridians, that map the whole body, including the head, trunk and limbs. The most commonly used acupuncture points are on the lower arms and legs.

Are there any contraindications with acupuncture?                                                                                                                                Acupuncture should not be used in cases of active infections, especially cutaneous, malignancy, or severe neutropenia.
Needling of scars, keloids, recent incisional wounds, or skin with sensory deficit is not recommended. The use of acupuncture is contraindicated in patients with bleeding disorders.

Cosmetic Acupuncture Questions

How is the treatment done?
Cosmetic acupuncture is performed by inserting hair-fine, sterile, disposable acupuncture needles into the skin at different areas of the face and body. This helps to stimulate blood flow and collagen production to the face while balancing the whole body. Specific areas are targeted for direct treatment on the face while body points are selected that will support the underlying issues that are manifesting on the face.

How many treatments will I need?
It is recommend that you have a series of 10 to 12 treatments.  For optimum results, the treatments should be done at least once a week. After the initial series is completed, we recommend following up with a maintenance program of one treatment every four weeks. The maintenance program will vary depending on your age and the quality of your skin.

What are the typical results?
The overall results can transform the skin with a smoother, more radiant appearance while improving the underling disharmony to reveal the body’s natural beauty.

Is there any down time after the treatment, can I go back to work?
No, there is no down time needed after the treatment.  In fact, your skin will look amazing!  You can easily return to work right away.  You are often very relaxed after a treatment so you may not feel like jumping back into a hectic schedule right away.

Are there any contraindications for Cosmetic acupuncture?                                                                                                                         If you have had microdermabrasion, laser resurfacing, surgical facelift, Botox® or fillers you would need to wait 3 months prior to having this treatment.

If you suffer from chronic migraines, uncontrolled high blood pressure, diabetes, actively trying for a baby, pregnant or breast-feeding, has a pacemaker, during a cold/flu, during an allergic reaction or excessive bleeding/bruising this treatment would not be suitable for you, however the non needle sculpting face lift treatment is used as an alternative.

Is the treatment painful?
No, not at all.  The treatment is very relaxing and comfortable.  We use the absolute smallest needles on the market, so most people don't feel anything at all. Acupuncture treatments are extremely relaxing for most people and many people fall asleep on the table.

Do you offer a consultation?
Yes! We offer a free consultation where we can go over the treatment options with you and determine the best treatment plan for your specific needs, that will achieve the best results. Pictures may be taken at the end of the consultation or at the first appointment.

Do I need to do anything before my treatment?
Patients should fill out and bring their initial paperwork to the clinic for their first appointment. I will send these to you prior to your first appointment. If you don't have access to a printer, please email me back your completed form.
